Colorful Chalks

Chalk Walk

Chloe Adiutori

If you’ve recently strolled into Palumbo, you’ve probably noticed a colorful new addition to the bustling sidewalk. On Sunday, September 27th, the Honors Student Advisory Board (SAB) hosted their yearly event for the Honors students as a socially distanced chalk walk. While last year SAB was able to host a collaborative Thanksgiving, the pandemic caused the SAB to change their game plan for this semester and opted for a more outdoor and socially distanced activity that also allowed for the same sense of collaboration and unity that the Thanksgiving dinner brought last year. The chalk drawing depicts ‘Gannon 2020’ in bold writing and in the signature gold and maroon we know so very well. Not only did the honors students partake in the event but the Gannon Art Club joined in and helped to outline the writing before the Honors students jumped on filling it in. In small groups, teams of honors students worked stroke by stroke to color in the lettering. Sophomore SAB member Olivia Kelly notes that “Making a creative chalk mural was a great way for us to become more connected as a group while still being aware of our social distancing”. The event allowed for the Honors students to engage with each other outside of the classroom and work together to create a piece of art together. In a time where socialization and bonding is rather difficult, SAB and the Honors students found a way to interact safely in a way that produced something so beautiful.
