Making Meaning with Movies

Who doesn’t love a good movie? That’s probably what many of the students who took a recent Honors class all about movies thought. The students in this class broke down the assigned movies and talked not only about how they enjoyed the movies, but what could be learned from them. And it turns out, a lot can be learned from movies.

Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with the Honors attendees about their experiences. I asked them about their topics and how the switch to online went. Here’s what they had to say.

Chalk Walk

If you’ve recently strolled into Palumbo, you’ve probably noticed a colorful new addition to the bustling sidewalk. On Sunday, September 27th, the Honors Student Advisory Board (SAB) hosted their yearly event for the Honors students as a socially distanced chalk walk.

GIVE Day 2020

Due to COVID-19 and social distancing, GIVE Day looked a little different this year. Volunteers were divided into small groups and picked up trash along streets near campus, cleaning up the Gannon neighborhood. Wearing this year’s black t-shirts and gardening gloves, volunteers spent the morning serving the community.

Biology in the Bahamas!

Hello, everyone! My name is Lexi, and I am a senior majoring in biology.  This past February I was fortunate enough to be able to take a travel course: this course was Tropical Marine Biology taught by Dr. Andraso, Dr. Dempsey, and Dr. Ganger.  For this course, we went on a trip to San Salvador, Bahamas where we studied coral reefs and the different organisms that live at each reef.
