National Suicide Prevention Week
Suicide is the second largest killer for the college kid age demographic, right after car accidents. This being said, it is important to recognize and address for everyone, especially in the month of September. September 6th through the 12th is known around the U.S. as National Suicide Prevention Week. It is a time to come together and recognize the intense effects of mental illness and pay respect to those who have died by suicide. Gannon has put a lot of effort into doing just that.
Peer Mentor Program
Incoming Honors students this year were paired up over the summer with a peer mentor from a pool of Honors upperclassmen. The goal of the program is to allow for freshman to comfortably transition into the Fall 2020 semester. The peer mentor program also gives new students a close resource to ask questions, voice concerns, and help relieve the stress that can come with going into college.
Being Social While We Social Distance
Following the stress of studying and adapting to the many new policies and procedures around campus, it is important to remember that college is not only about academics, but also about social growth and connection. While it may be a little more difficult to participate in fun social activities this semester, and likely this entire school year, there are still plenty of ways to spend time with friends safely. Here’s a list of some fun activities in the area!
