Honors Professor Dr. Megan Woller’s Upcoming Book From Camelot to Spamalot: Musical Retellings of Arthurian Legend on Stage and Screen

Brennen Grabowski

In today’s world, mythology, folklore, and legends influence different aspects of everyday life. Dr. Megan Woller, a Gannon professor and faculty of the honors program, dives deep into the world of Arthurian based legends with her soon to be released title. From Camelot to Spamalot: Musical Retellings of Arthurian Legend on Stage and Screen highlights connections between the ageless tales of Arthurian times to well-known musicals both modern and old. For instance, the novel refers to a range of titles from the classic musical Camelot (1960) to the British comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975). Dr. Woller finds herself in familiar ground with the book as she has studied the topic in years prior. Altogether, the book aims to make scholarly progress in the musical genre, but those with an interest in either the history of Arthurian legend or a general appreciation for the liberal arts will find Dr. Woller’s work enthralling.

The process behind writing From Camelot to Spamalot was effortless due in part to Dr. Woller’s interest in the stories surrounding King Arthur and the effect these tales had on the musical world. The extensive number of available sources and aid from research assistant Abigail Ritchie allowed for the novel to come to fruition with ease. Additionally, you can expect to see the book focus on the portrayal of famous characters such as King Arthur, Merlin, and Guinevere. The discoveries and connections established in the book will go further into detail on not just characters, but multiple facets of Arthurian tales.

For anyone interested, From Camelot to Spamalot: Musical Retellings of Arthurian Legend on Stage and Screen releases on April 2 where it will become available to purchase through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other retailers. The book is currently only available for preorder. Lastly, as an educator here at Gannon University and an honors professor, make sure to congratulate Dr. Woller on her remarkable workmanship in constructing a soon to be released scholarly book!
