Honors Sponsored Global Coffee Hour

Scott Zanella

One of the main goals of the Honors Program is to build a stronger global community. That is exactly what happened on February 27th, when the Honors International Committee hosted the monthly Global Coffee Hour. The event started at three o’clock on the third floor of Beyer Hall where domestic and international students could enjoy food, drinks, and company.

Amy Frosch, one of the co-chairs of the International Honors Committee said they love seeing these cross cultural interactions. “We want to see more international engagement with Gannon’s Honors program,” she said. “International students make up a large portion of Gannon’s population, so getting them involved and familiar with the Honors Program is something that is really important.”

Want to help? The organization Conversation Partners is always looking for new members. Through this program, domestic students meet up with and talk to an ESL student once a week. It counts for service hours and is beneficial to both parties. In terms of the Coffee Hour itself, there are tons of ways to get involved.

One of Gannon’s International Student Advisors, Marilee Wilkosz announced a couple of available jobs associated with the Global Office and its programs. “The biggest job is the Global Peers position,” she said. “It’s really beneficial for new international students to have a friend to introduce them into Gannon and Erie life.” This program is a one semester commitment. Its application is live on EngageU, and partners are set up based on common interests. “It is a really cool way for a reciprocal cultural exchange to take place,” said Wilkosz. On top of that, Student Orientation Leaders are wanted. This is a paid one and a half week commitment at the beginning of the year.
