Students Working at Wegmans

Brennen Grabowski

What exactly are honors students doing outside of the classroom? Well, you can find a few familiar honors faces working at local Wegmans grocery stores in the Erie area. It may seem to be an odd coincidence that honors students have gravitated to the same place of occupation, but this isn’t necessarily the case. Wegmans and the Honors Program have more in common than you may think. When looking at the core values of both institutions you will find that community acts as a pillar. Improving and aiding the local community is important to both groups. For instance, Wegmans is currently running a fundraiser for our local United Way through the end of November. Additionally, you can find the Honors Center holding charity events and drives throughout the academic year. Drawing these comparisons makes it clearer to see why Honors students would choose a place like Wegmans to work at.

At the moment, a decent number of Honors students are actively working at both the Peach Street and Erie West stores. You’ll be most likely to find such students in the evenings or on weekends. Many students dedicate time to Wegmans as they work hand in hand with students to provide financial support for schooling through scholarships. This is another perk of becoming an employee of the business. In addition, Wegmans offers plenty of opportunities to grow one’s own career with programs such as internships. The Honors Program also rewards hard working students in a similar manner. Once again, these parallels reveal common characteristics among both Honors and Wegmans.

Many students can be found working in a variety of departments at Wegmans. For example, at Peach Street you can find Luke Bratton slicing meat in the deli. At the Erie West store stop by pizza and you might see Jami Lacey tossing wings and operating the oven. In addition, you can find Chloe Adiutori and myself in the pharmacy billing flu shots and filling prescriptions. Although honors students are being highlighted here, many other Gannon students have chosen Wegmans as their workplace. For those interested in working at Wegmans, be on the lookout for job postings both online and in store. On your next grocery trip feel free to say hello to some familiar honors students at Wegmans!
